Chris Mauzy, Zip Express Installation: What’s Next For The Consumer
March 11th, 2010 by PeterEarlier this week, I spoke with Chris Mauzy of Zip Express Installation to learn how his customers have reacted to the Digital TV transition last year. The main takeaway? Customers are continuing to purchase antennas to replace their current cable or satellite services. While this is a surprising turn of events, Chris attributes this to the fact that the picture and sound quality is vastly improved and with these antennas, consumers have more channels to access. What more could they want?
While he also commented that content shifting is the “next big thing” with DTV, I wanted to get his perspective on which technology will have a great affect on consumers in the near future. In the conclusion of this Q&A session, I was excited to hear Chris’ insights regarding what is on tap for high definition televisions and how cable companies are competing to get even closer to the consumer.
Q: With March Madness around the corner – what do you see as the next big thing for high definition TVs?
A: I would have to say content shifting in the home and even accessing content over the Internet. I find it curious the number of consumers that spend extra money to gain features on their HDTVs and then they do not take advantage of these features by getting their product connected to their existing network.
Q: Verizon just announced that end-users can access their Facebook and Twitter accounts on their televisions, how will Comcast combat that?
A: I firmly believe Comcast has some pretty neat features they will be launching over the next 12 months that will absolutely amaze their customers. Comcast has some deep partnerships that their customers will get to take advantage of. For either of these companies to win in this area, they have to make the user experience and text entry as easy as the customer expects from their pc or laptop. The current “on TV” access is very clumsy and leaves a lot to be desired.
